The design concept comprised a building with traditional and modern materials. The External envelope comprises brickwork glazing and zinc cladding. Large areas of glazing were designed into the lecture theatre/ Exhibition Hall. The cladding around the curtain wall comprised Rheinzinc cladding panels. The architect required the external appearance of the glazing system to match this cladding. Due to the aspect of the building the two elevations with the glazed facades demanded different performance criteria from the glass panels.
Fendor utilised external FinelineTM steel curtain wall. This system provided the inherent strength to support the glass under external and internal loads. Also an extruded zinc cap is available. This met the aesthetic requirements without compromising performance. The glass was selected to minimise solar gain to the South façade but maintain energy in an areas of potential heat loss. Fendor worked closely with the Main Contractor and Design Team to ensure that the initial structural steelwork design accommodated the imposed loads of the glazing system.
There was a range of entrance doors provided to meet the functional requirements, from Automatic bi parting to manual folding sliding. All were supplied from the SwinglineTM range of products
Fendor have found that their available resource and knowledge in the specialist glazing sector can be an advantage to clients working at early design or construction phases of a project
