Key Issues
The building location demanded fire protection to the external walls to protect against fire spread to other properties. The external walls have punched hole windows, which require both fire resistance and environmental control. Natural light was used to good effect within the stairwell by including fire rated curtain wall.Fendor System Solution
Fendor have the resource and knowledge of fire products to engineer bespoke solutions to integrate into job specific applications. Fendor FineLine fire resistant curtain wall system used on the stairwell provided the necessary fire and structural integrity to comply with the client specification. Fendor had to engineer the glazing system and demonstrate (by calculation) that the building movement and racking could be accommodated within the brackets and flashings. The clients exposed horizontal steel was integrated into the curtain wall to form the necessary expansion joint.
The punch hole windows were manufactured from Fendor SlimLine insulated mild steel profiles to provide a slender framework that could be concealed in the structure. To achieve the required period of fire resistance Pyrostop glass was used incorporated into double-glazed units with a solar control glass for environmental control.
