Fire Doors in Antarctica!
Fendor Ltd are delighted to have received an order from Morrison Falkland Ltd to provide 60 minute integrity only fire doors to the new Halley VI Research Centre on the Brunt Ice Shelf in Antarctica. Hugh Broughton Architects, working with Faber Maunsell, won an international competition to design the Halley VI Research Station in Antarctica. The new station will provide a home and work place for 16 people during the winter and 52 in the summer
As fire is an ever present hazard in the Antarctic where humidity is very low, Hugh Broughton Architects specified Fendor SwingLine non rebated door system, along with Fendor 60/0 Pyrolithic glass to provide doors that help create fire compartments between the Research Centre pods.
Although work on this project is being carried out now, Halley VI Research Centre will not be fully operational until 2010.
